Side trunk stretches increase the mobility of the lumbar spine. Especially, the deep abdominal muscles with the quadratus lumborum will be stretched.
Side trunk stretches
Side trunk stretches can preferably be performed seated on the floor beside a bench or chair. Our legs bend to the sides and we sit beside our heels. The arm on that side of the trunk we would like to stretch supports on the chair (or bench). We now press away our upper body from the chair with the arm what causes our trunk to form a bow. Feel the stretch tension in the side of your trunk.
You could also perform the stretching by forming a bow with your trunk without having your arm supported. Raise your arm above your head to the other side to increase the curve.
